Reusing Topic Contents

Using the Combine Topic, Copy Topic and Alias Topic Topic Properties you can copy the content of one topic to another topic. For example, you can use these Topic Properties for overloaded functions.

  • Assign the Alias Topic, the Copy Topic or the Combine Topic property to the topic to which you want to copy the content of another topic.
  • Assign the Alias of, Copy To and the Combine With property to the topic the content of which you want to copy to another topic.

The Alias/Combine/Copy column in the Content Manager shows if the topic content is taken from another topic.

When you use the Alias Topic, the whole content of the topic including the declaration code is copied. When you use the Combine property, declaration codes of all combined topics are concatenated to one big declaration block. Topics that use the documentation of another topic via Alias or Combine do not appear in the output. To ensure that you can find those symbols Doc-O-Matic adds their topic titles to the index. Links to these topics are redirected to the topic whose content is used. Ensure that you export both topics.

When you use the Copy property, only the content written by the user is copied. The title and all automatically created content such as declaration source, class hierarchy, overviews and links is displayed for the current topic. The topic appears in the output even if you do not export the topic the content of which is copied.

Do not assign subtopics to a topic that you combine with another topic. Subtopics of this topic are not exported.
