Moving and Grouping Topics

With Doc-O-Matic you can structure your documentation by assigning topics to groups and contents entries. In the Contents Design mode, you can easily move your topics. The Design mode is turned on by default.

In the Design mode you can:

  • Move topics by using a drag-and-drop operation.
  • Move topics by clicking ,,, on the Manage tab in the Design group.
  • Move topics by right-clicking in the topics hierarchy, pointing to Contents Design and clicking Move Up, Move Down, Move Left, Move Right.
  • Move topics by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+arrow keys.
  • Select multiple topics on the same level and move them together.
  1. Right-click somewhere in the topic hierarchy.
  2. Point to Contents Design.
  3. Select TOC Lock , to disable dragging and dropping of topics in the hierarchy and moving topics. You can still change export states and sort topics.
  4. Select Full Lock , to disable Contents Design.
  1. Build groups of topics by adding topics as subtopics to other topics. One topic can only belong to one group.
  2. Create Contents Entries.

The hierarchy is saved in the DOX project file. To save your changes, save the project before you exit it.

You can also assign hierarchical information using tags in your source files. Group, topicorder and contentsentry tags in your source files are not updated using Contents Design. If there is TOC information available for a topic in source files and in you project files only TOC information in your project file is used. To remove TOC information from your project file you can use the Remove TOC Information tool on the Tools Menu.

Note: If you edit a topic in the Editor hierarchical tags in your source file are removed and are stored in the project file.
