Adding Other File Types

If you use languages other than C++, C#, Delphi, IDL, Java, JavaScript, VB.NET, MATLAB, ASPX, PHP and JSP or if you store your source comments outside your source code Doc-O-Matic requires you to adjust the files you want to add. Parsing natively supported language source files Doc-O-Matic can identify the description of each symbol and associate the description with this symbol. Comment blocks stored in other files must be made identifiable for Doc-O-Matic by assigning a topic ID to them.

There are several ways to assign these topic IDs. You can:

  • Automatically use the file name as topic ID in plain text files and the lower case file name in XML files.
  • Automatically use the file name as topic ID in HTML files. In addition you can use heading text as topic IDs. For more information on using HTML files as external source for a specific topic, see Including External Files.
  • Manually insert topic IDs for each comment block in the files in generic source files and plain text files containing more than one comment block.

In the next sections you will learn how to insert topic IDs in other file types.
